World Cup Dreams

It was hard to avoid the recent excitement of the World Cup soccer competition in South Africa. Whether it was Landon Donovan's last-minute winning goal against Algeria, seeing celebrities ranging from former President Bill Clinton to rock legend Mick Jagger in the audience, witnessing the U.S. make it into the final 16 teams, or just being moved watching so many nations come together to celebrate the sport, many folks caught the bug of World Cup fever. Few sporting events start with 230 nations competing. It's as if they all come together, with their myriad of enthusiastic fans, to speak a common language.Read more

Metroport Meals on Wheels honors Roxann Taylor

Those wonderful folks over at Metroport Meals on Wheels are hard at work preparing for this year's Fall Fashion Show and Shopping Bazaar, slated for Friday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marriott Solana in Westlake. This year's event will mark its fifth year and to celebrate, they are launching a new recognition award, the LINK Award. Each year Metroport Meals On Wheels will honor a community advocate who embodies the characteristics of the LINK award: L - Leadership, I - Inspiration, N - Nurture, K - Kindness. And this year, in my opinion, they have chosen the perfect person for the inaugural award ... dum dada dum: Roxann Taylor.Read more
