Eat it

Soon comes the season for party foods. You’ll be glad to have an easy one in your repertoire, particularly one that pleases all ages and is waistline-friendly. This reduced-fat version of a favorite warm dip comes from McCormick, the seasonings outfit that is promoting a more healthful Mediterranean-inspired diet. This recipe contains only 95 calories per serving, which is a welcome change from the usual holiday party fare.

Mediterranean spiced artichoke bake

Serves 8

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon oregano leaves

1/2 teaspoon rosemary leaves, finely crushed

1/2 teaspoon thyme leaves, crushed

1 (8-ounce) package frozen artichoke hearts, thawed, coarsely chopped

1 (3-ounce) package Neufchâtel cheese, softened

1/3 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise

1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons sliced green onion

2 tablespoons chopped tomato

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Mix garlic powder, oregano, rosemary and thyme in a small bowl. Set aside.

3. Place artichoke hearts in a food processor. Cover and process until finely chopped. Add Neufchâtel cheese, mayonnaise, Parmesan and herb mixture. Process until mixed well.

4. Spread evenly in a 9-inch pie plate or small casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until mixture is heated through and edges are golden-brown.

5. Sprinkle with green onion and tomato, if desired. Serve with pita chips or assorted crackers.
