Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper at Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie
Between Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper, they have enough hits to program their own classic radio station. Both will be bringing their extensive catalogs to the Verizon Theatre on Friday night for a show that’s going to bring back many memories. But it’s not all about nostalgia, as Stewart’s 2013 album of new material, “Time,” was a big seller. Lauper, of course, in the last few years has been busy writing the score for the Broadway musical “Kinky Boots” and recording a new album of country music, “Detour.” This promises to be a wildly eclectic evening and, remember, they’re advertising that Lauper takes the stage promptly at 7:30 p.m. You have been warned.
7:30 p.m. Friday. Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie, 1001 Performance Place, Grand Prairie. $89.50-$179.50.
Lake Street Dive at The Granada Theater in Dallas
It’s become common wisdom that if you don’t have either EDM or hip-hop beats or some bro-country twang, that you might as well kiss your chance at pop stardom goodbye. The foursome Lake Street Dive is here to say that this piece of wisdom may not be so wise. Combining a classic vocal approach to a blend of jazz and pop, the group has built a large following for its swinging, traditionalist approach. Drummer Mike Calabrase once said, “We want it to sound like the Beatles and Motown had a party together.” Now, they’re on tour and bringing their throwback sound to the Granada Theater in Dallas on Aug. 16). The show is sold out but if you can get lucky and find a ticket, grab it. You won’t be sorry.
8 p.m. Aug 16. The Granada Theater, 3524 Greenville Ave., Dallas. Sold out.
