It's an evening of drama, even on Fox's 'Idol'

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

The big event tonight, of course, is the American Idol season finale on Fox. ABC, the CW and NBC are counterprogramming with reruns, but CBS is sticking to its guns with an all-new Wednesday.

Stuff to watch or record

American Idol: For weeks now, the judges have (mostly) been acting as if teen sensation David Archuleta has already won this thing, but David Cook stands a chance of an upset in tonight's bloated - er, big -- two-hour finale. 7 p.m., KDFW/Channel 4

The Price Is Right: Here's another prime-time installment of the popular game show that at least acts like it's a game show, and not like it's the most important event of the TV season. 7 p.m., KTVT/Channel 11

Ocean's Eleven: Turner Classic Movies continues its May tribute to Frank Sinatra with five more of his films, beginning with this, the ultimate Rat Pack movie (the best moment, though, comes not from Sinatra but from Dean Martin, singing Ain't That a Kick in the Head). 7 p.m., TCM

Criminal Minds: The Behavioral Analysis Unit investigates a series of random shootings in New York in the third-season finale of this well-done but often hard-to-watch (and occasionally tasteless) drama. 8 p.m., KTVT/Channel 11

Depression: Out of the Shadows: This 90-minute film, which aims to reduce social stigmas about depression, examines the experiences of people who live with different forms of depression, as well as exploring the illness' causes and treatments. Jane Pauley, who has acknowledged that she has bipolar disorder, moderates a discussion that follows. 8 p.m., KERA/Channel 13

Boston Legal: I must admit, I've back-burnered this show, and several episodes are stacked up on my DVR. From what I'm told, though, the show has become even more outrageous than usual, which is saying something. Case in point: In tonight's finale, Concord, Mass., wants to secede from the United States, and the city's lawsuit could cause a rift between balcony buddies Alan and Denny (James Spader, William Shatner). 9 p.m., WFAA/Channel 8

CSI: NY: In the fourth-season finale, Mac (Gary Sinise) is summoned to a crime scene during a bank robbery -- by the robber himself, who wants Mac to prove that someone else has killed one of the hostages. 9 p.m., KTVT/Channel 11

Mind of Mencia: Irreverent comedian Carlos Mencia begins a fourth season of his no-holds-barred series, and with a presidential election to work with, he should have no shortage of satire-ready topics. 9:30 p.m., COM
