Tonight's CBS dramas are shiny and new

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Moonlight, the vampire/private detective drama that has a passionate cult following but is still questionable for a second-season renewal, returns with new episodes tonight on CBS. In fact, all of CBS' lineup is new, and it's the only broadcast network airing all-scripted dramas tonight.

    Stuff to watch or record

Soul Story: Bobby Brown: These days, Brown is known mostly for his tempestuous, ill-fated marriage to Whitney Houston, but he once was a hit-making machine. This special, part of a "New Edition" weekend that celebrates the '80s boy band of which Brown was a member, profiles his solo career through his music and videos, and includes a new interview with the singer. 6 p.m., VH1 Soul (Charter Channel 237, Time Warner 285, FIOS 189, U-Verse 521. Not available on satellite)

Ghost Whisperer: Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) helps a college student who is being haunted by scenes from famous horror films. Apparently it doesn't work to keep repeating, "It's only a movie ... it's only a movie ..." 7 p.m., KTVT/Channel 11

The Sarah Jane Adventures: Two half-hour episodes begin with the conclusion of Revenge of the Slitheen, in which Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) and her young friends continue to battle ugly green carnivorous monsters that disguise themselves as overweight Earthlings. 7 and 7:30 p.m., Sci-Fi

CEO: Gabriel Barbier-Mueller, chief executive officer and founder of Harwood International, chats with host Lee Cullum on her monthly local biz-talk show. 7:30 p.m., KERA/Channel 13

Doctor Who: After last week's 90-minute Christmas episode (which aired during the holidays in Britain, but was a little more oddly scheduled here), season four really begins with Partners in Crime, in which the Doctor (David Tennant) gets to the bottom of what's behind a suspicious weight-loss product. 8 p.m., Sci-Fi

Moonlight: As new episodes resume, Brothers and Sisters' Eric Winters appears as an assistant district attorney who could mean trouble for Mick (Alex O'Loughlin), who faces a dilemma when Beth (Sophia Myles) finds her life in peril. 8 p.m., KTVT/Channel 11

20/20: John Stossel talks -- and possibly verbally spars -- with blog queen Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post. 9 p.m., WFAA/Channel 8

Numb3rs: Bill Nye "The Science Guy" returns as the Cal Sci engineering department chairman, and ER's Sharif Atkins returns as a fugitive ex-Marine, whose family is taken hostage in this episode. 9 p.m., KTVT/Channel 11

Bill Moyers Journal: Moyers interviews the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the former pastor of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, who has been a big newsmaker this year because of his incendiary sermons and connection to presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, who is a member of the church. 9 p.m., KERA/Channel 13

Battlestar Galactica: Issues of faith, always present in this series, come to the forefront as the humans and the Cylons fight over religious beliefs, and the duplicitous Gaius Baltar (James Callis) and his Messiah complex figure into the debate. 9 p.m., Sci-Fi
