Today is Earth Day, and the second day of "Turnoff Week," which presents a dilemma: Turning off the TV (unplugging it, really) saves energy, but then you won't be able to see all the Earth Day programming. Many of PBS' children-oriented daytime shows will air Earth Day-related episodes on KERA/Channel 13. Here are some other highlights, Earthy and otherwise:
Stuff to watch or record
E:60: Among the segments on this edition of the sports/newsmagazine is one on former TCU defensive end Tommy Blake's battle with clinical depression, which could affect his prospects in the NFL Draft. 6 p.m., ESPN
American Idol: Andrew Lloyd Webber is the mentor artist tonight, and I hope at least one of the final six contestants realizes -- as nobody did during last week's Mariah Carey show -- that Webber actually has some fun, sassy songs to go along with all the earnest anthems. 7 p.m., KDFW/Channel 4
NOVA: Tom and Ray Magliozzi are usually radio dudes, with their popular show Car Talk. Tonight, they do the TV thing in a NOVA episode titled Car of the Future. 7 p.m., KERA/Channel 13
According to Jim: The Suite Life of Zack and Cody's Dylan and Cole Sprouse appear in this new episode in which Jim (Jim Belushi) comes up with a novel way of settling arguments among his kids, but finds it doesn't work as well when applied to grown-ups. A Jim repeat follows. 7 p.m., WFAA/Channel 8
Dancing With the Stars: The Results Show: Ashlee Simpson -- who has a new album, Bittersweet World, due out today -- is scheduled to appear tonight to perform Boys, a cut from the album. Wow, I got through that without saying one single thing making fun of her. 8 p.m., WFAA/Channel 8
Frontline:Hot Politics examines federal, state and local governments' stances on climate change. 8 p.m., KERA/Channel 13
Reaper: The series returns, with new neighbors Steve and Tony (Michael Ian Black, Ken Marino) concocting a scheme to help soul-reaping Sam (Bret Harrison) catch the devil (Ray Wise). Also: Josie (Fort Worth's Valarie Rae Miller) gets stuck in a bizarre love triangle. 8 p.m., KDAF/Channel 33
Hellfighters: This isn't the 1968 John Wayne movie about oil-well firefighters, but a 2007 documentary about Harlem's only football team; its coach, Duke Fergerson; and the bureaucracy Fergerson fights to keep the team alive. 8 p.m., ESPN2
Earth Report: State of the Planet: National Geographic Channel celebrates Earth Day with its annual report on which countries are helping, and which are hurting, the environment. 8 p.m., NGC
Big Ideas for a Small Planet: For this eco-minded series, every day is Earth Day. Tonight's episode, Gen Y, examines how people in their late teens and early 20s balance environmentalism and consumerism. 8 p.m., Sundance Charter Channel 262, Time Warner 576, DirecTV 549, Dish 332, FIOS 384, U-Verse 789
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Benson (Mariska Hargitay) begins a relationship with (uh-oh!) a journalist (Bill Pullman, whose casting is the subject of much debate among readers of the production blog on the SVU page at www.nbc.com). 9 p.m., KXAS/Channel 5
A Shot at Love 2 With Tila Tequila: Bisexual Internet phenomenon Tila Tequila misfired with her first Shot at Love, so she's back, with 30 men and women vying for her love. 9 p.m., MTV
