Eats Beat: Say Grace now or wish for luck later

By BUD KENNEDY

Grace is a month away.

Steakhouse executive Adam Jones’ new Fort Worth restaurant will open Nov. 11 — meaning book now for the holidays.

Grace is described as offering "modern American classics." It will serve steaks but also homemade pastas and fresh seafood.

Sous-chef Martin Thompson reeled off some of the features: a "seafood tower" of oysters, tuna and lobster, or squash ravioli with mushrooms, sheep’s-milk cheese and sage.

Grace is at 777 Main St., on the ground floor of Carter Burgess Plaza. Reservations at opentable.com; 817-877-3388, www.gracefortworth.com.

The other much-awaited opening is Eddie V’s Edgewater Grille, coming to Seventh Street in the Cultural District.

Eddie V’s Austin location is known for seafood, but the founders might be better known for starting Austin margarita fave Z’Tejas.

Texas still has one throwback to the elegant days of the department-store "tea room."

That’s Amelia’s on the Avenue in Waco, in a department-store-turned-antique mall.

Now, Amelia’s Too is open in Whitney.

That means it’s a shorter drive for quiche, salads or Amelia’s cakes and buttermilk pies.

Amelia’s Too is open weekdays at lunch; 207 N. Bosque St. (Texas 22), 254-694-8068.

The original Amelia’s is a quiet stop on the way to Austin: 1509 Austin Ave., about a mile west of Interstate 35. It’s also open Saturdays; 254-714-1229.

Speaking of department stores, it’s never too early to book holiday brunch at The Zodiac in Dallas’ Neiman Marcus.

The Zodiac serves brunch daily beginning Nov. 26. It’s a holiday tradition; 1618 Main St., 214-573-5800.

Some restaurants have an annual "green chile festival."

La Choza Mexican Grill in Parker County always serves Hatch green chiles and Mesilla red chiles.

A special this week was chipotle-chicken enchiladas with piña colada creme brulee; 11210 S. Farm Road 730, south of Azle, 817-444-9293.

A new brewery and steakhouse is open next to the Bass Pro Shops in Grapevine.

Uncle Buck’s has replaced the Michigan-based Big Buck. Some menu items are from Bass Pro’s other restaurant, Islamorada Fish Company; 2501 Bass Pro Drive, 972-691-5100.
