A group of Grapevine High School students is connecting with the older generation, and it's an effort that has been picking up momentum since Lea Coligado began volunteering at a local retirement living facility last summer. "I started volunteering last summer at South Colleyvine Ranch," said Lea, a GHS sophomore, who said she found the seniors "have very interesting lives and were very appreciative" of the volunteer work.
By July, Lea knew she wanted to make the effort more permanent, and she and five other students formed an organization called Club Generations Connect.Read more

The crime control board may vote to tax Colleyville residents on gas, electric and telephone service, but first officials want to get more information and hear from the public.
A vote on the proposed half-cent local sales tax on residential utility bills was scheduled last week, but the Crime Control and Prevention District Board, made up of Colleyville's City Council, delayed action. Some directors seemed reluctant to support the measure.Read more

If school trustees follow an advisory committee's recommendations, Colleyville and Grapevine voters will cast ballots in November on two school-related pocketbook issues.
The committee advised the board to place both a $125.9 million bond package and a 13-cent tax rate hike on one ballot. Committee members also recommended moving the date of the bond election from its original May date to the fall to better develop the package for votersRead more

With no progress on widening State Highway 26 through Colleyville, city leaders are considering asking for an economic-friendly roadway redesign.
"Highway 26 is pretty much dead in the water," Mayor David Kelly told council members on Jan. 5. He said a new design could mesh livability and development with transportation needs. "That's where we have this opportunity to maybe have a new look and a new presentation to say this is what direction we want to go."Read more

Before turning over the helm of the Grapevine-Colleyville school district to another leader, Dr. Kay Waggoner is trying to shepherd a smooth transition and help the district, now in its second year of deficit spending, deal with mounting financial challenges.
Waggoner has been selected as the next superintendent of the Richardson school district, Richardson and Grapevine-Colleyville school district officials announced last week. Her departure date from Grapevine-Colleyville has yet to be determined.Read more
