COLLEGE NOTES: TCU golf team earns 19th consecutive regional berth

The TCU Horned Frogs men's golf team will make its 19th consecutive NCAA Central Regional Championship appearance in Columbus, Ohio, starting May 15.

TCU was one of 27 teams picked for the Central Regional and is seeded 16th.

Other teams selected were Big 12 champion Oklahoma State, Southland Conference champion Lamar, Texas A&M, UT-Arlington and Baylor. Texas Tech, Texas and Oklahoma will play in the West Regional in Bremerton, Wash.

Guard picks Aggies

The Texas A&M men's basketball team picked up its first commitment for the 2009 recruiting class with Hyattsville (Md.) guard Naji Hibbert picking the Aggies.

Hibbert (6-foot-6, 195 pounds) averaged 17.1 points and 6.3 rebounds as a junior.

Texas Wesleyan softball: Seniors Elizabeth Brady and Ariel Raley and sophomore Ashley Oldham were selected to the Red River Athletic Conference all-conference team.

Texas Wesleyan baseball: Seven Rams were selected first team All-Red River Athletic Conference: center fielder Brandon Frazier, pitchers Hayden Lackey, Steven DeFratus and Aaron Wimpee, shortstop Butch Ballez, third baseman Zach Smith and right fielder Antoine Cole. Left fielder Blake Walker and pitcher Jayson Rachuig made the second team.

Lone Star Conference baseball: Tarleton State outfielder Greg Sillivent (Grapevine High) and Angelo State outfielder Jimmy Cox (Birdville High) were selected to the All-LSC second team.

UNT softball: North Texas earned the No. 6 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Championship and will face the No. 3 seed, Troy, in its first-round game at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Troy, Ala.

Tarleton State women's golf: The TexAnns are in third place after the first day of the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament in Phoenix. The TexAnns shot 318 and were six strokes behind leader St. Edward's. Defending regional champion Shraddhanjali Singh is tied for sixth with a 76.

Arizona men's basketball: Former Arizona State assistant Russ Pennell has been hired as an assistant basketball coach.
