Defensive end Auston English and tight end/guard Brody Eldridge suffered season-ending injuries Saturday at Nebraska, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Monday.

English is scheduled for surgery today to repair a torn tendon in his foot. Eldridge has an AC joint sprain — the same type shoulder injury that sidelined quarterback Sam Bradford — but Stoops said his course of treatment has yet to be determined.

"[Eldridge’s] total situation I will talk about once I have more details," Stoops said.

OU now has lost six players who began the season in prominent roles because of injury, not counting defensive tackle Demarcus Granger (back problem) or linebacker Mike Balogun who was ruled ineligible. Four other starters have missed at least one game injured.

TCU’s Dalton honored

TCU quarterback Andy Dalton was named Mountain West Conference co-offensive player of the week for his performance Saturday in a 55-12 victory against San Diego State. The junior was 14-of-20 passing for 239 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 44 yards and two scores for the No. 4 Horned Frogs. He shared the honor with BYU quarterback Max Hall.

The Horned Frogs’ game Saturday against No. 16 Utah at Amon G. Carter Stadium is a sellout, but a limited number of standing-room only tickets are available in the TCU ticket office in the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum, or by calling 817-257-3764. Tickets can be picked up between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. through Friday at the Coliseum.

Oregon’s Blount returns

Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, who was suspended for the season after punching a Boise State player in the wake of the season opener, has been allowed to rejoin the Ducks.

The university requested Blount’s reinstatement, which was approved by Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Larry Scott.

Blount will be able to play for the No. 14 Ducks Saturday when they host Arizona State. Blount punched Byron Hout after the nationally televised game.

Thomas drops debut

Deon Thompson scored 20 points to help No. 6 North Carolina spoil Isiah Thomas’ college coaching debut and beat Florida International 88-72 in the 2K Sports Classic. Thomas, a Hall of Fame point guard and former NBA coach, was on the sideline despite the fact his 86-year-old mother had open-heart surgery in Chicago earlier Monday.

In the tournament’s other games, Evan Turner recorded only the second triple-double ever for Ohio State with 14 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists in the 16th-ranked Buckeyes’ 100-60 victory over Alcorn State and Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim became the eighth Division I coach to reach 800 wins with a 75-43 victory over Albany.

Briefly

Big 12 football: Baylor quarterback Nick Florence, who threw for a school-record 427 yards in Saturday’s 40-32 upset of Missouri, was selected the Big 12 offensive player of the week. Special teams honors went to Texas A&M’s Cyrus Gray, who returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown in the team’s 35-34 loss to Colorado. Nebraska defensive back Matt O’Hanlon earned defensive honors by intercepting three passes and making 12 tackles in the Cornhuskers’ 10-3 victory over Oklahoma.

Baylor football: Fox Sports Southwest has selected Baylor’s upset of Missouri as a "Big 12 Instant Classic" and will replay the contest, which was not a live telecast, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Texas A&M football: Receiver Howard Morrow, a Keller Fossil Ridge graduate who ranks second on the team in catches this season, is "touch-and-go" for Saturday’s game against Oklahoma due to a sprained ankle, coach Mike Sherman said.

Memphis football: Memphis fired coach Tommy West, then asked him to stay through the end of the season. West said the university needs to put more money in the football program or drop it. West’s firing comes after the Tigers started the season 2-7 and less than 48 hours after a 56-28 loss to instate rival Tennessee.

TCU volleyball: TCU middle blocker Kourtney Edwards, a senior from Haltom City, was named the MWC co-player of the week for the second straight time. Edwards led the Horned Frogs to a sweep of BYU and a four-set win over Utah last week.

Staff writers Mike Jones, Stefan Stevenson and Jimmy Burch contributed to this report, which contains material from The Associated Press.
