Toys! Not tickets: Toys are the price of admission to the yearly fete put on by the directors of the Arlington Margarita Society. This year’s Margarita Ball is Nov. 21 at the Arlington Convention Center, where partygoers will feast on delicious hors d’ oeuvres and sip margaritas as they try their gaming luck in the big casino or vie with other bidders at the silent auction.

Two great bands, Johnny D and the Doo Wops and the very hip cover band Professor D, will rock the rafters playing a variety of genres guaranteed to bring everyone to the dance floor. Football fans won’t miss one second of the action because big-screen TVs will carry the night’s contests. President Bart Thompson says, "A lot of needy kids will get a great toy this year thanks to our partner, Santa Cops, who will distribute the toys collected at the ball to Arlington children. We expect to collect 3,000 toys thanks to the generosity of everyone at the ball." To get details, visit www.arlingtonmargaritasociety.org.

Shop early this year: By Sunday, you can have your holiday shopping finished. How? Just head out to the Arlington Junior League’s Holiday Magic gift market that opens today and runs all day Saturday and Sunday. More than 80 merchants from all across the country will have spectacular little stores set up in the Arlington Convention Center. Wear comfortable shoes and plan to stay focused on your list as you visit each vendor, and there’s no reason you can’t find everything you need. All in one place, there’s everything from clothing, jewelry and gourmet foods to home decor, gifts and accessories (think unique items that you would have to drive for hours to find). Merchant chairs Stephanie Cherry, Hazel Guideng and Autumn Reo have gathered a spectacular variety of quality shops that everyone will love exploring. Check out the details at www.jlarlington.org.

Walk for LUNGevity: Leading the pack of private-support organizations for lung cancer research is the LUNGevity Foundation, and it is set to raise more funds for this disease that is the No. 1 cancer killer with the DFW Walk for LUNGevity at Arlington’s River Legacy Park at 10 a.m. Saturday. Co-chairs Katie Brown and Kim Schwimmer say that the walk brings attention to the need for more research funding. All walkers and runners will receive T-shirts, refreshments, goody bags and will have the chance to meet cancer survivor Bud Baker from Arlington and hear his story. Visit www.lungevity.org or call 817-501-9313 to learn more.

If the glass slipper fits: What girl isn’t intrigued by Cinderella’s identity test in the famed folk tale full of magical experiences? Sophomore or junior girls from high schools in Arlington have the chance to be a part of the magic by applying to be a candidate for Miss Cinderella. The Ladies Auxiliary to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington is accepting applications until Nov. 21 from girls who want to be considered to participate in a seven-week fundraising campaign that benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs’ programs. The campaign culminates at a formal ball April 3, at which Miss Cinderella 2010 will be announced. Best party ever: That’s what I heard many people saying about the spectacular 50th anniversary party of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington that I attended last week along with well over a thousand other guests. The field of Cowboys Stadium was not only a unique spot for the event, but also it was cushy and comfy for the high heels of the ladies decked out in their party dresses. Chairs Judy Rupay and Laura DiStefano and their committee managed to pull off a one-of-a-kind night that had everyone in the crowd wide-eyed with wonder over the magnitude of the event. It was fun to watch jaws dropping as people stepped onto a football playing field that had been transformed into a magical environment. Legions of servers met every need throughout the evening that included dinner, cocktails, breakfast, auction bids that went to five figures, trips down 50 years of memory lane, and a concert that ended with a fireworks display. Congrats to staffers Michael Gonzales, Patti Ouart, volunteers and the board for an amazing night.
