Don’t miss the final weekend lineup of great concerts at the Levitt Pavilion in downtown Arlington (corner of Abram and Center streets). Tonight Austin’s Del Castillo performs its eclectic blend of flamenco, rock, Latin, blues and world music. Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., kids will love David Chicken, who will be performing material from his Emmy Award-winning DVD, The Adventures Of . . . David Chicken. Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Patti Diou from the Levitt says not to miss the indie rock sound of Odis. She adds, "Their fans say they can be compared to the likes of Maroon 5, Jamiroquai and Lenny Kravitz, only louder, with a retro-rock twist." The fall’s free concerts conclude at 7:30 p.m. Sunday with Christian soft-rock band The Afters, who recorded Beautiful Love, the most downloaded track of 2006 on the iTunes inspirational charts. The lawn is lush and comfy, Founders Park is wonderful, and the free entertainment can’t be beat.

An evening with Jim Dent: Bestselling author and sportswriter Jim Dent will be the headliner at the Arlington Public Library’s upcoming event in the Press Box at Cowboys Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13. The audience is sure to enjoy the stories from this award-winning journalist (formerly with the Star-Telegram) who covered the Dallas Cowboys for 11 years and has written six books, including The Junction Boys, the bestseller that was the basis for an ESPN movie and the popular Twelve Mighty Orphans. Tickets are $35 and include a stadium tour, along with the program and some delicious hors d’oeuvres. Reservations are due by Oct. 30, so call Andi Davis at 817-459-6924 to save your spot.

Expanding Your Horizons: Girls in sixth, seventh and eighth grades will love this event that teaches them there are no limits or boundaries to what they can achieve in the math and science fields. For aspiring pharmacists, biologists or engineers, the conference room at the University Center at UTA is the place to be from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Nov. 7. Today is the deadline to register, so call Roxanne Buil in the Women’s Studies program at 817-272-3131 immediately.

Simply Spaghetti: Help Arlington Charities feed needy families by choosing to dine on a delicious spaghetti feast followed by the most scrumptious homemade deserts you have ever tasted. New World United Methodist Church, 2201 N. Davis Drive, is the venue for this year’s fundraiser 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30. There’s a chance to win a $300 travel voucher, a $100 bond and more by buying a raffle ticket for only $4. The price is right for dinner at $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Call Melanie Gibson at 817-275-1511 for tickets or more information.

Candy-seekers alternative: It’s lovely that our community has dozens of events put on by neighborhoods, churches, schools and businesses that provide a safe alternative to the door-to-door candy hunts that were more common in years past. Today’s parents typically supervise the confectionary house-to-house quest and limit it only to families they know. Here are just a few of the alternatives out there:

Fall Festival is presented by the Mansfield Police 5-9 p.m. Oct. 31 at Rose Park (303 N. Walnut Creek Drive). Officer Curtis Phillip says activities include a hayride with several stops for the riders to see various themed skits performed by local high-school students. There’s also great food, carnival booths, bounce houses and a petting zoo, along with plenty of candy for everyone. Admission is free, and some activities have a nominal charge. Call Phillip at 817-276-4758 with questions.

Family fun and a pumpkin patch: The annual pumpkin patch at St. John the Apostle United Methodist Church at 5450 Mansfield Road in south Arlington is open daily 10 a.m.-8 p.m., through Oct. 31, according to Aprill Oberkrom, manager of the patch. From 10 a.m-2 p.m. Saturday, the church will host a free Family Fun Day featuring games, food, bounce houses, pumpkins and live music. Visit www.pumpkinpatch.stjohntheapostle.org to learn more.

Pug-O-Ween: Pug love and rescue is the driving force for this event 2-5 p.m. Saturday at Meadowbrook Recreation Center (1400 Dugan St.). Register your pug at 2 p.m. for the costume contest and while the winners are being announced, enjoy the silent auction that offers adorable items themed with all shapes and sizes of pugs. Contact Vanessa Boehler at 214-929-3655 for details or visit www.dfwpugrescue.org.
