It’s lovely that our community has dozens of events put on by neighborhoods, churches, schools and businesses that provide a safe alternative to the door-to-door candy hunts that were more common in years past. Today, parents typically supervise the confectionary house-to-house quest and limit it only to families they know. Here are just a few of the alternatives out there:

Keller Public Safety Fall Festival:. Law enforcement and emergency services folks who fight crime and ensure public safety team up with lots of cool exhibits at this free event 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the Keller Lions Club (532 Keller Parkway). There will be free food and refreshments, games, the K-9 patrol, bounce house, dunking booth, face painting, goodie bags and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit Keller ISD Special Olympics. Back by popular demand is the mobile shredder for free document shredding. Questions? Contact officer Scott Bradburn at 817-743-4533.

Fall Phantom Fest: Bring the family for an evening of thrills and chills, live music, vendors, great food and the debut of the first haunted house to be built in Trophy Club, Dr. Terrible’s Castle of Horrible Oddities. Hosted by Lakeview Elementary School at 100 Village Trail, the evening will feature activities, from crafts and a petting zoo to a hayride and zip line. It happens 6-9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7.50 for children. Contact Angela Scott at 817-698-1088 with questions.

Circus-style fall carnival: Compass Christian Church will have game booths, pony rides, a petting zoo, cosmic golf, clowns and lots of candy 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 30 at its Roanoke campus (611 Dallas Drive) and on Oct. 31 at its Colleyville location (2600 Hall Johnson Road.) and Oct. 31 at the church in Valley Ranch (8888 N. MacArthur Blvd.). Free admission. Contact Jeremy Hardwick at 817-906-1478 for details.

Yee Haw Festival: Gather your ranch hands and head over to Kay Granger Elementary School (12771 Saratoga Springs Circle in Keller) for the Yee Haw Festival, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 31. The festivities will include cake walks, bounce houses, dessert auction, silent auction and fun for the entire family. For more information, call Meredith Merritt at 817-431-3935.

Pumpkin Splash: Did you know that pumpkins will float? Come find out at the Keller Pointe (405 Rufe Snow Drive) 6-9 p.m. Saturday. Take a swim and get the perfect jack-o-lantern. $10 per participant. Call 817-743-4386 for more information.

Spooky Kooky Keller Kastle. From 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, children age 11 and younger will have a howling good time with free carnival games, candy, prizes and special entertainment beginning at 4:30 p.m. It happens at Johnson Road Park playground at 660 Johnson Road. Call 817-743-4386 with questions.

Haunted Trails: As night falls around Keller, spooks and goblins are sure to come out along the trail. Groups will head down the haunted Bear Creek Park Greenbelt starting from the Keller Pointe and returning to the parking area on hayrides, 7-10 p.m. Saturday at 405 Rufe Snow Drive.
