Chocolate Ball: How could the folks at North Texas SNAP (Special Needs Assistance Partners) possibly come up with a more appealing name for their big shindig Nov. 7? Regardless of what you conjure up with the double-entendre, they are both great images because everyone loves chocolate, whether it’s the ball, bar or wafer variety. And everyone loves to party at a big fancy ball, especially one that celebrates 10 years of great programs that this organization provides for people with cognitive disabilities.

The elegant Marriott Solana in Westlake will await guests with sparkling cocktails before a wonderful dinner is served, and then the room will rock with the music of King Creole playing favorites. A large committee that includes Maggie Baldwin, Judy Britton, Regina Kropf, Shonna Sade, Susan Schwindt, Marlene Turner, Karen Van Til, Kathy Welch and Barbara Wicker has made plans for big board and silent auctions. Wonderful vacation homes are up for bidders who might enjoy a week’s stay at an executive home on 22 acres in Pagosa Springs, Colo., plus homes in Angel Fire, N.M., and Florida. The popular master of ceremonies for many local charitable events, Scott Murray, will be on hand to host the evening of fun. SNAP’s Rita Goodner said, "This is always such a fun evening, and this year is very special since we’ll be celebrating our 10th anniversary." Tickets are available, so call Rita at 817-481-6522 to reserve your seat or check out www.ntx

Naturally Sweet: The beautiful Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve in Southlake needs to be on everyone’s "must visit" list of great outdoor preserves. And this wooded wonderland is hosting its first fundraiser Nov. 7. "Naturally Sweet" will feature dessert tastings and wine pairings from Northeast Tarrant County confectioners, eateries and Farpointe Winery, reports Debra Edmondson, who is working on the event. Naturally (pun intended), there will be works of art celebrating nature in the raffle and auctions. Honorary chairs, Southlake Mayor John Terrell and his wife, Joanne, and Mr. and Mrs.Pieter Andries Hye, are excited about this evening, which is designed to generate funds for this great new facility for our local community and beyond to enjoy. Appropriately, live music by Dirt and Earthy Vibes will entertain guests at the event. Tickets are available, so call 817-939-1110 to make reservations for this sweet event. To see the list of confectioners awaiting you with endless samples of great desserts, visit www.bjnc.org.

It must be fall: Paige Lutz from Hurst Parks and Recreation says to bring the family, marshmallows for roasting, lawn chairs or blankets, and experience the magic of the campfire and storytelling for all ages at "Campfire Stories," set for 7-8 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Longhorn Pavilion in Chisholm Park, 2200 Norwood Drive. And for a second chance for family fun for all those ghouls and goblins ages 12 and younger, plan to get them decked out in their favorite costume for Halloween Happenings at the North East Mall, 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31. Games, crafts, treats and prizes await the lucky kids at this free event. For information, call Paige at 817-788-7320.

Please send your event information to freeder@star-telegram.com so we can socialeyes again next Friday.
