The quality, or lack thereof, of American-made automobiles has been bemoaned for decades. Quality issues have nearly always been a problem in the industry, but for the first 75 years or so that situation was considered normal; the forgiving public believed producing large and complex mechanical devices simply involves too many parts and processes for nothing to go wrong.
