New Six Flags roller coaster is nearly off and spinning

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

With twisting helixes and wild mouse turns, the new Tony Hawk roller coaster is getting ready for its debut at Six Flags Over Texas next month.

The steel coaster, the latest addition to the Arlington theme park, cost $6.5 million to build and is in the final phase of construction. Crews have finished erecting the track for the coaster and are now working on the entrance and lineup area.

"We've gotten most of the steel up, but there is a lot of work to be done," said park President Steve Martindale, noting that the new ride is geared toward 'tweens and families. "This coaster is a lot more compact and has a lot more twists and turns, kind of simulating a skateboard run."

Tony Hawk's Big Spin twirls riders as it moves along the 1,351-foot track. It is in the Boomtown section of the park.
