Appointments

Helping Restore Ability has announced its newly appointed board members and board positions for the 2009-10 term. New board members are: Della Faye Sowunmi of Korloki Corp.; Doug Tonne, vice president of operations, Debt Education and Certification; and Steven Booher, city of Arlington, organizational development specialist. Positions are: Nancy Spears, president, marketing professor at the University of North Texas; Becky Haskin, vice president, owner, Steel Lighting Sales; and Mamie Bevers, secretary, LMSW, district aide to Sen. Chris Harris.

Honors

The city of Grand Prairie Communication Programs received five national awards in the annual City-County Communications and Marketing Association Savvy Awards Competition. This competition recognizes city and county public relations, public information and marketing efforts across the United States. Grand Prairie winners were: first place, World Class Wisdom book — Printed Publications; first place, annual calendar — Calendar Category; first place, "Billboards" — Print Advertising; second place, World Class Wisdom book — Most Innovative; and third place, World Class Wisdom book — Printed Guides.

Jim Brothers has been named chairman of the board of directors of the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau. Brothers has been a board member since 2006.

The Dallas-Fort Worth section of the American Chemical Society presented the 2009 Wilfred T. Doherty Award for Chemistry to Professor Rasika Dias of the University of Texas at Arlington.

Moves

Omega OB/GYN has announced the arrival of Drs. Stephanie Pickel and Charmaine Moczygemba. Both recent graduates, they will work out of the Arlington and Mansfield offices, with hospital affiliation at Medical City Arlington.

Kalyn Baldwin has joined Fort Worth-based GCG Marketing as community development coordinator.

Board-certified ophthalmologists and retina specialists Drs. Lee Anderson and Cliff Beasley Jr., who have been serving the Fort Worth community for more than 25 years, have joined Texas Retina Associates.
