Mark your calendars again: The annual holiday lights parade in downtown Arlington has another new date.

The parade, traditionally held the first Saturday in December, is now scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 12. Parade organizers previously announced that the parade and Christmas tree lighting ceremony in front of City Hall would be Dec. 6 after learning that Arlington’s public safety and traffic resources were already committed to the Big 12 championship game at Cowboys Stadium on Dec. 5.

With the opening of the $1.2 billion stadium, public safety officials have said they will try to avoid simultaneous major events if they might significantly affect city services. The parade, first held in 2002, draws nearly 100 entries and thousands of visitors downtown. The Big 12 championship game could sell out.

The deadline to enter the parade has been extended to Nov. 18. The parade is organized by volunteers and funded through donations and sponsorships. For more information, go to www.holidaylightsparade.com.
