If you are wondering if the largemouth bass at Richland Chambers Reservoir are on a feeding pattern after the spawning season, just ask Mark Beckmann of Bryan.
Beckman used a white 1-ounce Rat-L-Trap to catch a limit of five bass, averaging more than 4 pounds each to win the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League’s Cowboy Division tournament Sunday at Richland Chambers. Swimming lures, such as the Rat-L-Trap, often are among the most effective for bass feeding on shad and other baitfish, especially after the fish have recovered from the rigors of the spawning season.
Beckmann’s 20-pound, 11-ounce catch earned him $2,124.
Kit Getchell of Granbury placed second with 20.07 pounds and won $1,250. John Byler of Irving finished third with 17.06 pounds and won $833.
A two-day Super Tournament, the Cowboy Division’s fifth and final event, will be held Oct. 4-5 on Lake Texoma.
