Firefighters investigating blaze that destroyed Dallas home

Firefighters on Wednesday were trying to determine what caused the early-morning fire that destroyed an upscale home in North Dallas, officials said.

The two-alarm blaze at 2 Kelvingate Court was reported at 6:19 a.m. and was tapped out at 7:12 a.m., according to Dallas Fire-Rescue reports.

The loss of the home was estimated at $700,000, said Jason Evans, spokesman for Dallas Fire-Rescue. The estimated loss of the home's contents, however, was unavailable.

Firefighters were called to the neighborhood to investigate a report of smoke in the area, Evans said.

"They arrived at a large two-story brick home with heavy smoke showing," he added.

There were 70 firefighters on scene, but the house could not be saved.

Firefighters, however, sprayed water on neighboring homes to shield against sparks and embers from the fire.

The cause of the fire was still undetermined Wednesday afternoon.
