BEDFORD -- A husband and his wife were in custody Monday afternoon after police said they tied up a relative with rope, assaulted him, held him captive and threatened him with a knife because they believe he had assaulted her 23 years ago.
Authorities said the couple even drove the tied-up 47-year-old Hurst man to the woman’s parents in Hurst to make him confess.
A preliminary police report does not indicate if he made any statements to the woman’s parents.
The 38-year-old husband and his 32-year-old wife were arrested about 9 a.m. Monday, police said. They were in the Bedford Jail Monday afternoon on suspicion of aggravated assault.
They also face additional charges, Bedford police Lt. Kirk Roberts said Monday afternoon.
The incident began about 9:30 p.m. Sunday when the husband called the relative and asked him if he could help him move a refrigerator. He would pick up the relative in the 600 block of Bellaire Drive in Hurst, police said.
“He (the husband) drove over to Hurst, picked him up and drove back to Bedford,” Roberts said. “When they pulled into the driveway, he (the husband) pulled out a knife.”
The 47-year-old man told police his legs and hands were tied with rope and a noose was placed around his neck as he sat in the pickup.
At about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, the husband’s wife arrived and she repeatedly slapped the Hurst man as he sat tied up in the pickup at their southwest Bedford home, police said.
The woman then wanted the Hurst man to admit his assault on her to her parents in Hurst, police said. The woman told police that she was assaulted by the man when she was 9 years old in Hurst.
The couple drove him to her parents, police said.
For an undetermined amount of time, the Hurst man was held captive until the couple released him, police said.
He contacted Hurst police about 1 a.m. Monday, police said. Hurst police contacted Bedford police when they determined that the incident started in Bedford.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the alleged kidnapping and the assault that alleged to have happened 23 years ago.
