Teen suspect in shooting surrenders to Arlington police
ARLINGTON — Police have detained a 16-year-old suspected of shooting a 17-year-old Arlington man.
The juvenile, whom police said they believe is the shooter, surrendered to authorities Wednesday and is being held at the Tarrant County juvenile detention center.
He faces charges of aggravated assault-bodily injury, said Lt. Blake Miller, a police spokesman.
Moses Perez was found shot in the front yard of a residence in the 1200 block of Gibbins Road in north Arlington late Tuesday. Police said the shooting appears to be a gang-related.
Perez was recovering from gunshot wounds in the face and abdomen at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas on Wednesday. Relatives said Perez is in critical condition but improving.
"Last night, when he got there, they thought he might not live," said Perez’s cousin, J. Garcia, 17. "But now he can move his feet."
Garcia said he was talking with his cousin Tuesday when the shooting occurred. Three teens on bicycles rode by and started yelling out the name of their gang, Garcia said. Garcia and Perez responded, and that’s when shots were fired, Garcia said.
"I’m happy they made the arrest," he said. ". . . I’m happy that my cousin is doing better."
On April 15, two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting a few blocks away, at Gibbins Road and Gibbins Court.
