Teens try to rob jogger in Euless at knifepoint

EULESS — Three teens were taken into custody Sunday after they tried to rob a jogger at Midway Park at knifepoint, police said Monday.

After being stopped by the juveniles, the 39-year-old jogger ran away from them as a patrol officer in the area saw the incident, police said.

The boys were captured after a brief foot chase, police said.

The Euless teens —ages 13, 14 and 16 — were taken to the Lynn W. Ross Juvenile Detention Center in Fort Worth. They are expected to be charged with delinquent conduct/aggravated robbery, police said.

Generally, the Star-Telegram does not identify juveniles.

The holdup was reported about 6:35 a.m. Sunday at the city park in the 300 block of W. Midway Drive.

“He was jogging by himself when he was stopped by these three kids,” Euless police Lt. John Williams said. All three kids were armed with knives, police said. “They demanded money, but he said all he had was his cellphone. They demanded that, but he ran off and started to call 911. The kids chased him.”

At about the same time, a Euless officer patrolling the area saw the teens chasing the jogger, Williams said.

The teens abandoned their pursuit when they realized that officers were chasing them, authorities said. The teens were captured about two blocks from the park, Williams said.
