A Dallas man faces a charge of murder after he was involved in a traffic accident about 1:30 p.m. Monday that killed an 83-year-old Dallas woman.
Eddie Ramirez, 28, allegedly stole a police "bait" car Monday which subsequently crashed into a car driven by Annie Reyes, according to police reports.
Reyes, whose 2000 Honda was broadsided in the wreck, near the intersection of 12th Street and Montreal Avenue in the Oak Cliff area of southwest Dallas. She was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m. at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, according to reports.
The bait cars, which are used to catch vehicle thieves, are equipped with a special device that allows officers to disable the engine by remote control.
Officers were following the bait car, a 1994 Honda and Sgt. Gil Cerda, police spokesman, said there was no chase.
He said Ramirez accelerated the car, when he saw a police car and then crashed into Reyes' Honda.
Ramirez has previously been jailed on numerous charges, including evading arrest, burglary of a vehicle, burglary of a habitation, theft, and possession of marijuana, said Kim Leach spokeswoman for the Dallas County Sheriff's Office.
