A 2-year-old Garland boy, lying in his family’s driveway to watch the evening stars late Tuesday, was fatally hurt when his mother pulled into the driveway, police said.
Marvin Segovia was taken to Baylor Hospital of Garland where he later died of his injuries, said Officer Joe Harn, police spokesman.
Police responded at 10:30 p.m. to the family’s home in the 3500 block of Galaxie Road in south Garland. The location is near the intersection with Southern Cross Drive.
Officers learned that the boy’s mother, was returning home from the grocery store in a Chevrolet Tahoe, but she didn't know that her husband had taken their two small children outside, 'and was lying on the driveway with them to look up at the stars," Harn said.
"Apparently," Harn added, "Mr. Segovia dozed off and when his wife returned he did not hear her turning into the driveway.
"Ms Segovia did not see them lying there and her Chevrolet Tahoe drove over Marvin."
Police investigated the incident, Harn said.
"So far from evidence gathered at the scene, traffic Investigators believe at this time this is purely a tragic accident," Harn said.
