Bass Hall director resigns to join Pearl Brewery

Paul Beard, managing director for Bass Performance Hall, announced his resignation Tuesday.

His last day on the job is June 13. He begins his new post as managing director of the Pearl Brewery Complex in San Antonio on July 14.

Beard has been the head of Bass Hall for 15 years, coming on five years before the building was completed. In San Antonio, he will lead the development of a 22-acre site on the Riverwalk where "urban living, great food, entertainment and education come together with programming and events focused on the arts, culture and learning," according to a news release from the Pearl complex.

In a separate statement from Bass Hall, Beard said, "The 15 years I've worked at Bass Performance Hall have been the most satisfying of my career. What we've accomplished here is a point of pride for everyone involved. Bass Performance Hall is the envy of the arts world. ...”

Beard's announcement comes just weeks after two other high-profile resignations at Fort Worth arts organizations: Texas Ballet Theater managing director John Toohey will leave at the end of 2008, and Casa Mañana executive director and president Denton Yockey is leaving Cowtown in August for a theater job in Kansas City.
