FDA shuts down Pasadena, Texas, seafood company

In an unusual move, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday told a Pasadena seafood company to shut down and immediately recall all the products manufactured at its Texas facility since 2007.

Consumers were also advised that all smoked catfish steaks and other smoked seafood products from Hope Food Supply should be thrown out. Anyone who became ill after eating the products should consult a doctor and report the problem to the FDA, officials advised.

Hope Food, whose products were distributed nationwide, failed to have a plan to ensure that food was safe, said Margaret O'K. Glavin, associate commissioner for regulatory affairs, in a news bulletin.

"The FDA will take action against companies and against their executives who violate the law and endanger public health," she said.
