Ex-police sergeant arrested in Arlington

ARLINGTON -- A former Dalworthington Gardens police sergeant and Troy police chief was arrested Monday on a theft warrant from Bell County.

Arlington police officers arrested James David Seward about 2 p.m. Monday in the 2600 block of Autumn Trail on a warrant charging him with theft, $500 to $1,500. Details of the theft were unavailable Monday evening.

Seward and his three officers in Troy were fired in 2006 for what city officials called poor performance or misconduct in the areas of department finances, record keeping, communication with superiors and maintaining the department office, The Associated Press said, citing a 2006 city news release.

Seward began working as chief in Troy in February 2005. The Bell County town is about 70 miles north of Austin and has about 1,400 people.

He had been a patrol sergeant for the Dalworthington Gardens Department of Public Safety, where he worked for 12 years.

It was unclear whether today’s arrest was related to his firing. Troy City and Bell County officials did not return calls seeking comment.

Seward remains in the Arlington Jail without bail.
