ARLINGTON — The Dallas Cowboys could have a permanent American flag inside their stadium as early as their annual Thanksgiving game, a team spokesman said Wednesday.

Owner Jerry Jones hears the growing chorus of fans criticizing the team over the issue, spokesman Brett Daniels said.

The Cowboys used a giant flag the size of the field for the first regular-season game, and the huge video boards hanging over the field usually show the flag during the national anthem.

On his radio show last week, Jones reminded listeners that the flag flies every day near one of the stadium’s plazas. He said the team preferred to use live color guards and the giant video board.

But the flap started two weekends ago when no flag was displayed inside the stadium during the playing of the national anthem for a game between Southlake Carroll and Colleyville Heritage high schools.
