The beat goes on and on.

Five local high school marching bands will compete today in the Class 4A state contest at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

It’s the first time that schools from the Fort Worth and Mansfield districts — Southwest and Legacy, respectively — are at state. The others from Tarrant County are Azle, Boswell and Saginaw.

The preliminary round begins at 8:30 a.m. and the final round around 7 p.m. Results should be announced about 10 p.m.
