A Grapevine woman was fatally injured Wednesday when her husband struck her with his car in a Walmart parking lot in Hurst, authorities reported. He then shot himself, police said.

Sandra Bentley, 50, was pronounced dead about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner.

Her husband, Curtis Bentley, 53, also of Grapevine, was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot at the scene, police said.

Witnesses told officers that Curtis Bentley was in the parking lot at 1730 Precinct Line Drive driving fast when he ran into his wife shortly before 11:30 a.m., said Sgt. Craig Teague, a Hurst police spokesman.

Then, witnesses said, Bentley’s car rolled forward about 75 feet and he shot himself, Teague said.

Investigators don’t know why, he said.

The Bentleys had four children, police said.
