Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman hurt again

IRVING -- Only a few short days after the Dallas Cowboys celebrated the return of cornerback Terence Newman, there is concern he might have sustained another injury.

Newman has hurt his groin again, but in a different area that put him out for six games this season. Newman missed practice Friday morning, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn’t sound 100 percent sure Newman will play on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

“Yeah, but I don’t know that,” Jones said. "I think he ought to.”

Jones added, “Terence had a slight pull (Thursday). He’s working through that. We didn’t want him to push off it.”

Newman underwent surgery for a sports hernia on Oct. 10. He has missed six games this season already because of the injury in that general area.

When asked about 15 minutes after practice why Newman missed the session, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said, “I don’t know.”

This would be a major blow to the Cowboys’ defense. In his first game back last week after missing five consecutive games, Newman shut down Washington Redskins receiver Santana Moss and came up with an interception and a key fourth-down pass breakup.
