QB Brooks Bollinger works with Dallas Cowboys first team

IRVING — Dallas Cowboys third-team quarterback Brooks Bollinger took some snaps with the first team today, but coach Wade Phillips said Brad Johnson will start against the New York Giants on Sunday.

In his two starts in place of injured starter Tony Romo, Johnson has completed 53.7 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and three interceptions. However, most of his passes have been safe and short.

Phillips said the Cowboys are concerned about Johnson’s ability to get the ball downfield to playmaking receivers Terrell Owens and Roy Williams.

In the Cowboys’ 13-9 win over Tampa Bay, Johnson averaged 2.8 yards per pass play and his longest completion was 14 yards.

Bollinger signed with the Cowboys on Sept. 8. The six-year veteran spent the previous two seasons with Minnesota after playing three seasons with the New York Jets. He has completed 201 of 343 career passes for 2,155 yards and eight touchdowns with eight interceptions.
