Who’s who

Dr. John S. Baen is a professor of real estate, as well as a practicing commercial real estate broker, Certified Real Estate Appraiser, Certified Right-of-Way Agent, author and expert witness/consultant. Dr. Baen has authored more than 70 articles, five books/texts and is currently serving as the American Real Estate Society (ARES) representative as Director of the International Real Estate Society (IRES). He received his B.S. at Texas A & M University in 1970, master of urban planning, Texas A & M University in 1972, and Ph.D. in Real Estate Development and Planning, Texas A & M University in 1982.

Kerry Clapp joined Chesapeake Energy Corporation in 2006 and currently serves as manager for area operations for Chesapeake Energy Marketing, Inc. (CEMI). Clapp earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University and an MBA from Oklahoma City University. He has more than 26 years of energy industry experience.

Cathy Curtis joined Chesapeake Energy Corporation in 2004 and serves as manager of corporate recruiting. She has more than 15 years of corporate and university recruiting experience. Curtis earned a bachelor’s degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.

Jay Ewing brings more than 25 years of experience to the oil and gas industry. He is the Completion and Construction Supervisor for Devon’s Fort Worth Basin region where he supervises the well completion, testing and servicing and intervention operations at the rig site. Ewing is also in charge of Devon’s water recycling pilot programs. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (past president of Fort Worth Chapter), the American Association of Drilling Engineers and is chairman of the Barnett Shale Water Conservation and Management Committee.

Andree Griffin is a native of Fort Worth. She joined XTO Energy in 2004 and is working as the geological manager for the Fort Worth Basin. She is a member of the AAPG, FWGS, and is chairman of the FW Wildcatters. She graduated from Duke University in 1984 with a B.S. in geology. She received her master’s degree in geology from TCU in 1987.

Ed Ireland is the executive director of the Barnett Shale Energy Education Council, which was founded by seven of the leading energy companies operating in the Barnett Shale. The organization is dedicated to promoting energy education and best practices as it relates to oil and gas leasing, drilling, production, transportation and marketing in the Barnett Shale. Ireland’s primary responsibilities include overseeing the activities of the BSEEC, a Texas non-profit organization.

Professor Bruce Kramer, Maddox Professor of Law at Texas Tech University, teaches oil and gas law and has written a casebook entitled Cases and Materials on Oil and Gas Law. Additionally, in 2004 he wrote Drilling in the Cities and Towns: Rights and Obligations of Lessees, Royalty Owners and Surface Owners in an Urban Environment. He served as a member of the Council of the Oil, Gas and Mineral Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. He received his B.A. at the University of California at Los Angeles, 1968, J.D, in 1972 and LL.M., University of Illinois, 1975.

Wilma Lopez is the employment manager for XTO Energy Inc. Lopez has been a member of XTO Energy’s human resources team since February, 2001. Lopez currently leads the recruiting team at XTO in identifying and placing talent in XTO’s corporate campus located in downtown Fort Worth, as well as supporting XTO’s recruiting efforts in the various field offices. She is also certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR).

Ken Saulve is a Wheatland County Councilor and landowner. For decades oil and gas activity and agriculture have worked side-by-side on Alberta’s Prairies. Today Wheatland County is a key area of activity for EnCana’s Canadian coalbed methane resource play. As a County Councilor, Saulve has been instrumental in economic development for the area and has always taken into account the best interests of the community. For the past year Saulve has been a member of EnCana’s Courtesy Matters committee for the Wheatland County region.

Bob West has extensive experience in business, real estate, and oil and gas transactions, and general representation of businesses, partnerships, water districts, and non-profit entities in transactions and litigation. He is known as a problem solver and a deal closer and particularly enjoys using his more than 30 years of experience to assist clients in effectively resolving unexpected problems that arise on pending transactions. He has served as lead attorney for borrowers on multi-state secured loan transactions of up to $100 million. He holds a Title Insurance Escrow Officer License from the Texas Department of Insurance.

Samuel F. Wren has more than 16 years of experience in public accounting. The emphasis in his practice is in taxation planning and compliance including partnerships, corporations and individuals. Wren’s significant industry experience is in the areas of real estate and energy.
