13 players from Arlington Bowie to sign letters of intent
Arlington Bowie sits alone at the top.
The Volunteers, which went 12-2 last season and reached the Class 5A Division I regional finals, is expected to have 13 players sign National Letters of Intent today. The Volunteers lead all area teams with the most signees. Here are the top five, with amount of signees in parentheses:
1. Arlington Bowie (13)
Notable signees: Kip Edwards (Missouri), Marcus McGraw (Houston)
Comment: It’s the most ever for coach Kenny Perry, who had plenty of talent on both sides of the ball.
2. Hurst L.D. Bell (10)
Notable signees: Deante Piper (Northern Arizona), Atem Bol (BYU)
Comment: Blue Raiders have players going to mostly small schools, but it’s still quite a haul.
3. Arlington Martin (8)
Notable signees: Jeremi Mathis (UNT), Jake Sharum (Air Force), Lane Taylor (Oklahoma State)
Comment: That’s now 16 total players who have signed Letters of Intent in Bob Wager’s first two years as head coach.
4. Southlake Carroll (7)
Notable signees: Blake Cantu (Oregon), Tré Newton (Texas), Sam Schwartzstein (Stanford)
Comment: Dragons have made a yearly habit of having lots of signees.
5. Mansfield (7)
Notable signees: Donavan Roberts (NM State), Kenji Jackson (Missouri).
Comment: Tigers closed strong with players who are mostly headed to smaller schools.
