After pulling off not one but two late-inning wins, the Colleyville Heritage Lady Panthers (26-11) moved on to the Class 5A Region I softball quarterfinals.

Junior Kristin Anderson, the Lady Panthers’ left fielder, was right in the middle of both game-winning rallies. She had a seventh-inning single on Friday, when Colleyville Heritage scored four runs in the inning, and she singled and scored in the ninth inning Saturday.

“I didn’t know what to say on Saturday,” Anderson said. “It was really shocking, but in a good way.”

Colleyville Heritage and Anderson, who says she’s waiting to catch a few newly released movies when she gets a chance, face Flower Mound (24-6) in a best-of-three series starting Thursday night.

Now that you’ve had a couple days to think about the series win, what are you feeling now?

It’s just very exciting. People didn’t expect us to be this good this year and now we’re going to the third round of the playoffs. It was really exciting and nerve-wracking.

What did you do to celebrate?

We all met back at the school, went to dinner and did a toast every time someone came in. There were a lot of toasts. It was really funny.

Having a freshman pitcher (Kayla English) may have added to the mixed expectations. How has the team rallied around her?

Freshmen are always nervous because it’s their first year in high school and don’t always know what to expect, but we just helped by talking to her and picking her up if something goes wrong. There’s just a lot of encouragement.

What do you like doing outside of softball?

Since there’s new movies out, I love going to the movies. Sometimes I go with my team and sometimes I go with my other friends from school because since I’m with my team a lot, I don’t always have a lot of time to hang out with friends.

Is there really time for movies with the season going on?

We try to catch them when we can. We had team dinners when we were in district, and we would watch a movie every time we went over to somebody’s house.

What movies to do you want to see that you haven’t yet?

I really want to see Made of Honor and Baby Mama. Those look really good and some of my friends who aren’t on the team saw them this weekend and said they were really good.
