If Megan Kerr actually did get a chapeau for each hat trick she’s scored for Azle, she would need some kind of multi-pronged Dr. Seuss-like hat rack.

The junior forward has racked up eight hat tricks, including a six-goal game, en route to the school record of 74 goals.

She’s yet to commit to a college but is working toward that goal with a single-minded focus.

Her mother, Beverly, was her first soccer coach when she was four and now she’s the soccer chauffeur.

Without a strong club system in the Azle area, Kerr commutes to Arlington for practice and games with the Polaris club. She admits that outside her family there’s “not really” much she does in terms of hobbies or activities away from soccer.

Perhaps it’s that single mindedness that has her atop the area’s goal-scorer statistics with 36 goals this season.

Stylistically, what type of forward are you, how do you score your goals? “Mostly just by out-running the defense and putting the ball in the back of the net.”

Is there a player you look up to? “Mia Hamm, she scored lots of goals and I love to play forward and I’m fast and like to score goals and love the passion of the game.”

What was it that clicked for you about soccer? “The intensity of the game, I like how it’s non-stop so you can play physical and you can do stuff that you can’t do in basketball or whatever.”

So is there anything else out there for you besides soccer? “If I’m not playing I’m always at home watching it on TV. If it’s not on Fox Soccer Channel then I watch it on the Spanish station. I leave the sound up because I understand, Gooooaaal.”

With such a focus on soccer are you afraid of burnout? “No, I keep it to a limit where I play and I don’t get too involved, where I don’t get burned out. I keep it to where I’m still loving to play the game.”
