Looking ahead at this week's boys and girls high school sports action:

Baseball

Postseason or Playstation? Looking at the standings for District 8-4A right now, one team will get the playoffs and the other two will get to touch up on their Madden skills.

Everman, Aledo and Crowley all enter the final two weeks of district play with 8-4 district records. Joshua (9-1) and Cleburne (8-2) hold down the top two spots.

Crowley nearly handed Cleburne a loss on April 11, but surrendered four two-out rallies to lose 6-5 in eight innings. A win would have been the Eagles’ fifth in a row. But there is no rest for the weary in this district and Crowley will have to shake off that loss with Mineral Wells (2-8) on April 15, Everman on April 18, and Aledo on April 25.

Aside from Crowley, Aledo, winners of three straight, still has Joshua, Cleburne and Mineral Wells on its schedule. Everman, which has been as unpredictable as they come, will face Alvarado, Joshua and Stephenville. The Bulldogs haven’t won two straight since they won four in a row from March 14- 25.

One spot left. Springtown is 9-14 overall and 3-8 in District 6-4A. Yet, the Porcupines are only one game back in the loss column for the third and final playoff spot. That’s right. The same can be said for Saginaw (8-12 overall), which is one win back of Azle (11-16, 5-7) for the final playoff slot. Keller Fossil Ridge (19-6, 12-0) and Birdville (19-7, 11-1) have controlled the district all season. Springtown will get a chance to get even with Saginaw on April 15. It split the season series with Azle. Saginaw and Azle will meet on April 22. Azle won the first meeting 8-4.

Softball

Scheduling conflict. District 8-4A still has a lot to iron out as it enters the final week of the season. About the only thing that’s been set in stone is that Aledo (28-1, 12-0) is going to the playoffs.

Everything else still needs to be pressed to get rid of leftover wrinkles.

Joshua and Cleburne are tied for second place at 9-3. Crowley is 7-5 and Stephenville is 6-6. Cleburne appears to have the toughest remaining schedule with road trips to Crowley (April 15) and Aledo (April 18). Joshua has a little easier road trip at Stephenville and Alvarado (4-7). Crowley ends the season with a home game against Everman (0-12).

April 18, mark it down. As it stands, Hurst L.D. Bell and Euless Trinity are both 5-5 and tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in District 7-5A with one week left on the district slate. If Trinity (13-13) can beat Irving (third place at 6-4) on April 15 then the Trojans and Bell will duel in a monumental showdown at Trinity on April 18 at 7 p.m. Trinity shut out Bell. 3-0, on March 25. South Grand Prairie (17-4, 9-2) and Nimitz (15-9, 6-3) play each other on April 15 also.

Key games that will determine a lot about the playoff picture:

4-5A – Mansfield Summit (9-5) at Granbury (8-6), April 15, 5:30 p.m., Summit is tied with Mansfield for the third playoff spot but each team would go if they each won out. Granbury is right behind, tied with North Crowley.

Mansfield (9-5) at North Crowley, April 18, 5:30 p.m. 8-5A – Arlington (8-4) vs. Lamar (8-4), April 15, Workman Field. Teams are tied for second place behind Arlington Bowie (10-2).

Tennis

Regional meets will be held April 21-26. The state meet will run May 5-6.

Golf

Regional meets will be held April 21-26. State meets for 1A, 2A and 4A are on May 5-6. State meets for 3A and 5A are May 8-9.
