ARLINGTON — The banner Arlington Martin crashed through to start its second half against Arlington Lamar on Friday summed it all up for the Warriors: Just win.

The plot was that simple at Cravens Field. A Warriors win put them in the playoffs as the third seed out of District 4-5A with Arlington and Arlington Bowie already having claimed the top two spots.

Arlington Lamar was in either way.

Thanks to a dominating defensive effort that translated into 21 points for its offense, that’s exactly what Martin got, 42-19.

The Warriors limited the Vikings to 65 yards of offense in the first half, which it ended up 21-0.

Warriors defensive end Alex Mills returned a fumble 95 yards for a score late in the third to give them a 35-6 lead.

Earlier in the quarter, Danzel Williams, who had three touchdowns on offense, literally took the ball from a Lamar running back to set up another.

"What a stellar effort," Martin coach Bob Wager said.

"[Arlington Lamar running back] Ja’Terian Douglas is a fabulous football player. That means you have to put everyone on the line of scrimmage. You have to take those two corners and have them play great, which they did."

Douglas ran for 140 yards on 30 carries and a 16-yard score. But it wasn’t enough.

Martin (6-4) plays Haltom (5-5) at 9 p.m. Thursday at Cowboys Stadium. Lamar (6-4) will face 9-0 Abilene at 6 p.m. Friday at Cowboys Stadium.
