On the strength of a big second-half showing from running back Michael Jacobs, Fort Worth Arlington Heights was crowned District 7-4A champions Friday night with a 21-7 victory over the Fort Worth Dunbar Wildcats at Clark Stadium.

Jacobs finished with 120 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries, but it was his second-half performance that paved the way for the Yellow Jackets.

At the start, it seemed as if each offense would actually have trouble putting any points on the board. However, Dunbar struck first late in the first quarter as running back Arlyn Carter found the end zone from 3 yards out for the only score of the first half.

Things were different in the second half, with Heights taking charge.

The Yellow Jackets started at their own 35, and the impact of Jacobs was immediate. Runs of 19, 15 and 14 yards helped pushed Arlington Heights down to the Dunbar 3, from where quarterback Omar Valdez scampered in at the 7:50 mark to tie the game at 7-7.

It wasn’t much longer before the Yellow Jackets led for good, thanks to a Jordan Price interception he returned 45 yards to the Wildcats’ 16.

Jacobs again carried the load, finishing the short drive with a 3-yard scoring run and a 14-7 lead for Heights.

The Yellow Jackets also showed some flash in the Wildcat formation. Quarterback/wide receiver Marquis Jackson came in late in the third quarter and rushed for 53 yards and caught two passes, including a 25-yarder that finished the scoring.
