Kurt Busch was staying close to his younger brother Kyle throughout the Dickies 500 this afternoon. And when Kyle had to pit because of low fuel, Kurt took advantage.
The elder Busch won the Dickies 500 this afternoon, claiming his second victory this season and first ever at Texas Motor Speedway. Kurt kept this weekend’s victory party in the family but denying his younger brother his shot at history. Kyle Busch had won Friday and Saturday’s races, and was trying to become the first driver to win all three NASCAR national series races in the same weekend. He finished 11th."It was quite a bit of fun," Kurt said of running neck and neck with Kyle. "I felt it early on in the way each of us would beat each other out of the pits and play cat and mouse on the restarts. To have him going for the sweep of the weekend, I was rooting for him. But it’s bittersweet because we took the sweet part."Sprint Cup points leader Jimmie Johnson was involved in a wreck on Lap 2. He was able to come back after more than an hour's worth of repairs to his car, and he finished 38th."I just tried to play through mind what I could’ve done differently at the start of the race, but I can’t think of anything," Johnson said. "There's not much we can do. luckily we had a big points lead. we’ve been telling everyone this is far from over. we still have a decent points lead so we have to dust ourselves off."Denny Hamlin finished second and Matt Kenseth, who started in 30th, placed third."We knew we were short on fuel and when we got tires and fuel with 25 to go we thought we had a chance," Kenseth said. "The #2 (Busch) was fast all day. It was cool that he pulled it off and I was really happy for Kurt. But overall, it was a great day for us. We started 30th and had to battle all day long."
