ARLINGTON -- More than $120 million has been spent with minority contractors on the new Dallas Cowboys stadium, but the project is still a little short in three of five fair-share categories.
So far, 100 minority- and women-owned businesses have been awarded contracts on the $1.1 billion project. It has surpassed minority goals in the "construction" and "other professional" categories and only lags slightly in the "architecture and engineering" and "other services" categories, project coordinator Katrina Keyes said in a presentation to the City Council on Tuesday.
"It's excellent," said Mayor Robert Cluck. "I'm very proud of this. Those are not crumbs."
Only $5,438 has been spent with minority firms in the "goods" category, but Keyes said most of the contracts for goods, which include furniture, light fixtures and flagpoles, have not been awarded. The goods won't be purchased until the stadium is close to being completed.
