Henry can try out
Former Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry will be released from court-ordered electronic monitoring and house arrest so he can try out for another team.
Henry's attorney said the 24-year-old player has an offer to try out for another team but did not say which one.
Henry has pleaded not guilty to charges of misdemeanor assault and criminal damaging stemming from a March incident. He was suspended by the NFL for eight games last season because of numerous prior arrests and was cut in April.
NFL vs. Comcast
The NFL Network filed its complaint Tuesday with the Federal Communications Commission against cable TV giant Comcast.
The network is accusing the nation's largest cable operator of discriminatory and anticompetitive treatment in violation of the Cable Act of 1992.
The sides have been feuding over Comcast's decision to place the NFL Network on a premium sports tier that customers must pay extra to receive. The network contends that Comcast is engaging in discriminatory and anticompetitive conduct because it includes less-popular national sports channels it owns, Versus and the Golf Channel, on a basic tier.
Briefly
Giants: Offensive lineman David Diehl has signed a new, six-year contract worth $31 million. After replacing Luke Petitgout at left tackle last season, Diehl performed well protecting quarterback Eli Manning's blind side during New York's run to a Super Bowl title. The contract includes escalator clauses that would raise his salary by up to $1.1 million per year as long as he continued playing tackle.
Bears: Veteran strong safety Adam Archuleta was released Tuesday, barely a year after Chicago traded a sixth-round draft pick to the Redskins to acquire him. Archuleta flopped after signing with Washington for what at the time was the largest contract ever for a safety ($30 million for six years with a $10 million signing bonus). The Bears drafted safety Craig Steltz of LSU last month.
Jets: Veteran cornerback Hank Poteat agreed to a one-year contract to stay with New York. Poteat, 30, started nine games last year and made two interceptions.
Jurisprudence: Former Vikings defensive lineman Darrion Scott was charged with assault, accused of holding a plastic bag over the head of his 2-year-old son. According to the complaint, the boy's mother said she went to Scott's home on April 26 to pick the boy up when she heard the boy crying and found him with Scott holding a dry cleaning bag tight around the boy's neck. Scott said he was playing with the child.
