Cheers: To the 97 cadets of the Rosemont Middle School Junior Cadet Corps who participated in the Veterans Day parade. Cheers also to the drill team, color guard, physical fitness and Academic Challenge teams for participating in this year’s Alliance Air Show. Way to go Broncos!

— Ret. U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Toney Ray Turner, Fort Worth

Cheers: To Fort Worth residents for turning out for the Veterans Day parade. I rode on an American Legion float, and for the first time in 33 years, I felt like my military service was truly appreciated. What a country!

— James Phipps, Azle

Cheers: To the Carroll school district for staging Veterans Day assemblies throughout the district on Nov. 11. These assemblies were thoughtfully planned to honor our community’s veterans, and the students seemed to genuinely recognize and appreciate this.

— Michael, Wendy, Kevin and Ryan Adler, Southlake

Jeers: To the companies that didn’t lower their flags to half-staff for the victims of the Fort Hood shootings.

— Chelsa Kelley, Burleson

Jeers: To the owner of an area upholstery company for denying that his employees damaged the wood on the arms and legs of my chairs while in their possession. Jeers for the poor quality and incomplete workmanship on the chairs.

— Jessie W. Wood, Hurst

Cheers: To Surles Ornamental Iron for our beautiful new fence and gate. This company was a delight to work with. Cheers also to KFS Roofing Co. for the wonderful service on our roof. This company went above and beyond in giving great service.

— Jan Morgan, Arlington

Jeers: To those like Danna Harvey who regurgitate rabid radio rhetoric without attempting to verify (Nov. 7 Jeer). Welfare recipients, and others, have been able to receive free cellphones and discounted telephone service for more than a decade. But the program is funded by telecom companies, not by taxes.

— Bob Dickey, Willow Park

Cheers: To Alex Branch, Chris Vaughn and other reporters who contributed to the Star-Telegram’s superlative coverage of the Fort Hood massacre. It really gives us pause to reflect that we’re vulnerable to violence at home, not just in war zones abroad. Let’s pray for the victims’ families and God bless our troops!

— Don and Edna Maskell, Fort Worth

Jeers: To the newspaper and television coverage of the Rainbow Lounge incident. Two months coverage, day in and day out, is more than sufficient. How much coverage would this incident have gotten if it had been a biker or a cowboy bar? Enough already!

— Bob Starnes, Burleson

Jeers: To a Southlake fitness center that makes one jump through hoops to cancel a membership, just so it can get that one last monthly charge. It has lost all of my family’s memberships now instead of just the one I intended to cancel.

— Wendy Adler, Southlake

Cheers: To the Sam Houston High School Key Club members who dedicated their time and effort to help our Fall Fun Fest be a success!
