Cheers: To the Southwest High School marching band for being the first band from the Fort Worth school district to make it to the state level of competition. Your hard work and dedication showed well.
— Karen Koirtyohann, Fort Worth Cheers: To the Southwest High School marching band for advancing to state. These kids have worked very hard under the leadership of Stacey Dunn and the entire instructional team. Go Raider Band!— Penny Acrey, Fort Worth Cheers: To the thoughtful person who picks up my morning paper and puts it near the front door, saving trips into the front yard for this slightly disabled senior citizen. When "Helen" is going to be out of town, there is a note saying how long she’ll be gone. I have never met this kindhearted person but she’s my angel.— Mary Ann Knowles, Grand Prairie Jeers: To the Fort Worth Transportation Authority for its poor replacements of the downtown bus shelters. The new "shelters" are useless. The rain pours through the opening in the roof’s center and there’s no shelter whatsoever from the sun. Whoever designed and approved these "shelters" should be fired.— Marsha Ahrvide, Fort Worth Jeers: To the woman who honked at me and my kindergartner after reluctantly allowing us to cross the parking lot to go into Friendship Elementary. You were waiting in a line! Do all of us a favor and take some deep breaths.— Amy Hawks, Fort Worth Cheers: To Dorice Warren for graciously offering to make the North Side High School choir girls new formals (at cost) for competition performances. The program hasn’t had new dresses for 15 years! This means the world to our kids and program.— Roxanne Wueste, academic/SIP coordinator, North Side High School, Fort WorthJeers: To those who jeer too much in the Star-Telegram. Life is too short to be stressed over such nugatory issues. Lighten up.
— Alejandro Galaviz, North Richland HillsCheers: To Larry Fuller’s Oct. 24 Jeer about people not using turn signals. Add that the fast lane is not the slow lane, the middle lane is not the slower lane, and the slow lane is not the fast lane! And for heaven’s sake, learn to yield to traffic exiting the freeway.
— Charles Carter, Arlington Jeers: To the dog owners who use the pond at Haas Street and Garber Lane to train their Labradors. This is a fishing pond, not a dog training pond, and you are violating the city ordinance. We have to pick up our fishing rods and leave because of your disrespectful act.— Blanca M. Morales, Keller Cheers: To USMD Hospital at Arlington for the monthly luncheon to celebrate employees’ birthdays. It was such a special treat, and I loved the gift bag! It’s no wonder that being shown appreciation adds to the hospital’s atmosphere of friendliness and teamwork. — Deborah Avant, Arlington Jeers: To Phyllis Bunch’s Oct. 24 Cheer. Where was your opinion writing when MSNBC was slamming President Bush for eight years? Keith Olbermann called him stupid and juvenile, and Chris Matthews insulted him every day. Ma’am, please be consistent. Remember, it’s whose ox is being gored.
