Fort Worth officer hit by vehicle while moving a couch off I-30

A veteran patrol officer was injured Tuesday night when he was hit he tried to remove a couch from Interstate 30, police said.

The officer, who was not identified, has a broken leg, cuts and bruises, and was in stable condition Wednesday evening at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, police said.

The officer responded to a call about 10 p.m. about debris in eastbound lanes of I-30 at Henderson Street near downtown. He began to set out cones and flares.

“The officer was out of his patrol car when he was struck by a vehicle,” police Capt. David McElroy said in an email Wednesday.

The driver stopped to help, police said. No charges are expected, police said.

The officer has been on the force for 13 years.
