Jerry Jones: Josh Brent will play again, only question is when

According to owner Jerry Jones, there is no doubt defensive tackle Josh Brent will return to the Cowboys less than a year after being convicted of vehicular manslaughter in the December 2012 death of teammate Jerry Brown.

The only question is when.

The Cowboys are waiting on a ruling from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on a possible suspension for Brent under the league’s personal conduct policy.

The Cowboys expect Brent to be suspended between four and six games, according to a source.

Brent, who has not played football since 2012, is already ruled out for the Sept. 7 season opener, because of the delay in the decision.

“I have an indication,” Jones said on his radio show on KRLD-FM on Tuesday. “I’m not at liberty to talk about when. I certainly have an indication that he will be reinstated. But the commissioner on matters of league punishment moves at his own rate.”

The interesting question is whether Brent will be good enough to make the roster after being out of football for more than year is not one that Jones and the Cowboys concern themselves with.

The Cowboys would have to make a roster move to clear space for Brent whenever he is available to return. Jones has already indicated that the Cowboys will do just that.
