UPDATE: With nearly 4,800 votes cast, Keller Fossil Ridge running back Keshawn Mitchell is the Player of the Week for Aug. 28-30. Mitchell received 3,07 votes. Check back Monday for the Week 2 nominations.

There were many great performances in the first week of the high school football season. Here’s your chance to tell us who has earned dfwVarsity Player of the Week honors.

QB Sam Barry, Grapevine -- In a 43-36 loss at North Crowley, completed 30 of 49 passes for 302 yards and 2 TDs, and rushed for 108 yards on 22 carries with 2 TDs.

LB Garrett Blubaugh, Keller – Recorded 16 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery for TD against Midland Lee.

RB Emmanuel Esukpa, Mansfield -- rushed for 226 yards on 22 carries, with 3 TDs, against Marcus.

WR/DB/K Alexis Flores, Fort Worth Carter-Riverside -- Against Dallas Conrad, had a touchdown catch, recorded two interceptions, kicked two field goals and three extra points, and blocked an extra point.

DT Curtis Foley, Arlington -- Against Duncanville, recorded 15 total tackles, with 3 QB sacks, 1 tackle for Loss, 1 QB pressure, and 2 caused fumbles.

QB Tony James, Arlington Bowie -- In a 72-49 win against Dalas Jesuit, passed for 459 yards and 6 TDs, and rushed for 140 yards, 1 TD.

RB Courtney Miles, TC Nelson -- Rushed for 300 yards and 4 TDs, and had 3 receptions, for 84 yards and 1 TD in a 42-35 win against Flower Mound.

RB Keshawn Mitchell, Keller Fossil Ridge -- rushed for 171 yards and 4 TDs in the Panthers’ 48-26 win at Tyler Lee.

CB Darryl Thomas, Mansfield Legacy -- Recorded 2 interceptions, 4 solo tackles and 2 assists in the Broncos 54-35 win against Lucas Lovejoy.
