MANOR — Fort Worth Wyatt couldn’t get its offense going in a 39-7 loss to Austin LBJ on Saturday at Mustang Stadium. The Chaparrals were limited to 102 total yards, turned the ball over five times, and didn’t have a red-zone opportunity until late in the game when Tyreece Hickman’s 21-yard touchdown reception broke the Jaguars’ shutout.LBJ took an early 7-0 lead on a 3-yard touchdown run by De’Andre Wytaske with 9:44 remaining in the first quarter. Wytaske set up the touchdown with a 63-yard punt return after LBJ’s defense forced a three-and-out on Wyatt’s opening possession. The speedy junior worked his way down the left side on the return, and broke a pair of tackles before he was dragged down at the 3-yard line.LBJ added to its lead with 4:00 left in the first quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run by Kahlil Thomas.LBJ’s offense cooled in the second quarter, but made up for it with 26 points in the second half. LBJ quarterback Avery Jackson scored on a pair of long touchdown runs, which were sandwiched around another touchdown drive that was sparked by a 51-yard completion to the 1-yard line. While the LBJ offense kept rolling, Wyatt struggled to find answers as it botched snaps and couldn’t develop a consistent running game out of a traditional formation. Javonte Adams led the Mustangs with 64 yards on 18 carries, and spent much of the second half taking direct snaps. Adams also completed his only pass attempt to Hickman for the late touchdown.Austin LBJ was coming off a season in which it lost to Leander-Rouse in the bi-district round.
