Cornerback Morris Claiborne did not play Thursday and missed the entire preseason for a second consecutive season. He’s had an injury-riddled career so far and the latest setback has been a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder.

There is still pain in the shoulder, but Claiborne says he can play through it. He’s been wearing an additional pad during practices and told reporters after Thursday’s game that he’ll receive a pain-killing injection prior to the season opener Sept. 7 against San Francisco.

That could go on for more games, too.

“I have all my range of motion,” Claiborne said. “The biggest thing is the pain. Can you tolerate the pain? The pain is there and it’s not going anywhere.”

Injuries have been a constant problem for Claiborne, the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft. He dealt with tendinitis in his right knee early in camp.

Claiborne brushed off any notion that these injuries and missing preseason action is a cause for concern.

“I feel like it’s what you make it,” Claiborne said. “I felt like if you’re not going to be ready, then you’re not going to be ready. But I feel like I will be ready for the game hands down.”
